温故知新/ Learn from the past 温故知新(Learn from the past) is a kind of proverb origined from China, which means if you study the old lessons, lives, books, technologies, arts, whatever very closely and appreciate them enough, you can find their true meaning why people in the past did things as they did. And by knowing that you can find the new you. Yesterday, I got a complaint from my boss and he said to me that I should know this "温故知新" and learn it better. The reason why he blamed me because I talked back to him when he gave me a data he wanted me to input manually in an excel sheet. I asked him to give it in data form not in paper, becuase manual input is so out of date. He might be offended a bit and said that it was my job to make them perfectly in any conditions and added that "温故知新" comment. The IT has been evolving itself by learning humans' tries and errors. The IT is the most 温故知新 thing, I believe. He is just looking back not learning from the past at all. The IT will leave him behind. I'm sorry for grumbling today.
