This diminitive sufix is used when people wants to show empathy, more one example: I am drinking a bear in a bar, and suddenly arrrives a close friend, so i invite him to drink a bear with me, i say in portuguese, "Vamos tomar uma cervejinha?" In portuguese is cerveja, in english is beer, a diminutive form in portuguese is cervejinha, people used to talk like this when they want to show Kindness, gentleness.
