The American Opinion About Russians
Recently I watched an American movie and it showed Russians like a stupid homeless, deep alcoholic with low moral values. Do Americans really think that it's true? that in Russia all people wear caps with ear-flaps with the hammer and sickle symbol, drink vodka, walk with bears and play balalaika?
First of all, most of Russians don't play balalaika. Secondly, we drink only on holidays like New Year, birthday and other so-called "red days of the calendar". Then, bears.. I'm 23 years old and I haven't ever seen one. I have a big fluffy cat but it does not look like a bear. Finally, we aren't homeless. The official level of unemployment is about 1% and it's a quite low value. 27.6% of the economically active population have higher education at least.
In conclusion, Russia is not poor barbarian country as it tries to show on American TV or movies. We have internet, clean streets in cities. We stopped to build communism and world empire. We are kind, sympathetic and open people.
p.s. What do you think about Russian people and Russia a whole? Please, tell me any stereotypes, associations, etc.
