Omar Khayyám

He who understands the life,
He Does not hurry anymore.
He savors every instant and observes,
How the child sleeps, and the old man prays,
How it rains, and how the snowflake thaws.

Кто понял жизнь,
Тот больше не спешит.
Смакует каждый миг и наблюдает,
Как спит ребенок, молится старик,
Как дождь идет, и как снежинка тает.

I think that in this poem, the Russian "понял" is best translated into English using the present tense "understands".  Aren't there existing professional translations of this work of Khayyam?
