Vietnamese Lotus Tea « TRÀ SEN » I keep my first notebook entry on italki to write about the Vietnamese Lotus Tea (Tra Sen), my favorite tea of Vietnam. The lotus tea is the mixing of green tea and the stigma of lotus. It is a rare gift and valuable in Vietnam. For the Vietnamese, the smell of lotus is one of the most beautiful and délicate that is. Rare, the lotus flower grows only in a few places (the most famous place is HoTay, Hanoi) and it flowers only three months per year. For one kilo of lotus tea, we use 1500 fresh lotus flowers. The proces of making request a lot of patience and talent. The people must gather at dawn the flowers, select by hand with many attention the stigma, the mix it with green tea of Vietnam. For this reason that before the lotus tea was reserved for the royal and rich family only. In the season of lotus, from Juin to Septembre, with my friends, we go often to HoTay (west lake) to drink a fresh lotus tea. The people put the green tea on the lotus, keep the flower closed for one night. Tomorow, we can take this tea to drink. It’s so fresh and smell good. If you come to Hanoi one day, don’t forget to taste this tea ☺ Thanks to read my notebook and corrige it for me. I think i have a lot of mistake because it’s longtime i don’t write in English.

Vietnamese Lotus Tea « TRÀ SEN »

I write my first notebook entry on italki about the Vietnamese Lotus Tea (Tra Sen), my favorite tea of Vietnam.

The lotus tea is the mixing (or mixture) of green tea and the stigma  (flower plant i think but I don't know this word in English: botanic term) of lotus. It is a rare and valuable gift  in Vietnam. For Vietnamese, the smell of lotus is one of the most beautiful and delicate. Rare, the flower lotus grows only in few places (the most famous place is HoTay, Hanoi) and it blooms only three months per year. For one kilo of lotus tea, we use 1500 fresh lotus flowers. The fabrication process  requests a lot of patience and talent. People must pick up the flowers at dawn , select by hand with many attention the stigma. People mix it with green tea of Vietnam. For this reason, at the origin the lotus tea was reserved only for the royal and rich families.

During the season of lotus (from June to September), with my friends, we go often to HoTay (west lake) to drink a fresh lotus tea. People put the green tea into the lotus, keep the flower closed for one night. The next day, we can drink this tea. It’s so fresh and have a good smell.

If you come to Hanoi one day, don’t forget to taste this tea ☺
