Unilingual woes...
I've never been so sad about not knowing another language as I was today. I was at a party for a Brazilian friend. He is tri-lingual and had a number of friends and family at the party speaking Portuguese and Spanish as well as those of us who only speak English. (Well, I know some Spanish, but not enough to feel comfortable carrying on chit-chat.) Anyway, a gentleman came up to me to ask a question and first he started to talk to me in Portuguese and when I said I didn't understand he started to try Spanish. Oh, how little I felt when I had to tell him I only spoke English...He looked at me like I was from Mars! He said "Not French or even Italian?"
Not gonna lie, friends, a little part of me died at that moment. How dare I not know those beautiful languages! One day...someday perhaps I will.

I think this is a good example that English may be spread far and wide but it isn't the only language. :) It's good motivation! English may be common but it isn't the only way to communicate.

It is better to be a master of one than a Jack of all trades. I am sure when the time comes, you will embark on your dreams :)

Thank you all for the comments! @Heinz I know I am lucky to be a native English speaker since it's a global language. @Ian W, I'll hold you accountable to that. Please do the same for me! @Ania I will definitely use it to motivate myself as well! @jennyljk, you are so right. There are many "universal" languages!

Don't feel sad! At least you know the most world widely used language! :) And we, english learners, have to struggle to adquire it :) Nowadays it is really awkward to confess that somebody doesn't speak english...
But actually I really understand you, in similar situation I feel the same, but... I try to turn my envy into motivation, and start from the beginning with more energy :)
