Christmas traditions Christmas is this time of year when familiy gather all together under one roof, usually grandma´s roof but not always. As soon as you come in, you see a huge table covered by several metallic trays that contain cold cuts such as cheese and ham among others. Walls are decorated with green or red garlands and lights -of course a Christmas tree is a must- and some people even decorate their houses with nativity scenes. The youngers used to sing charols to their relatives and they recieve money in return, in Spain we call this action, to sing charols and recieve then some money, "pedir o dar el aguinaldo". The family members start chatting about several subjects: work, life, romantic relationships and, of course, about a subject all children would change, school marks. When it is late enough to have dinner, young people help adults to set the table. A selection of plates are served: roasted lamb leg, piglet, shrimps, hake, bass, seafood soup and stuffed meat are the most popular foods, but they can change a bit depending on the family´s taste. Some people drink wine, some people have other drinks and children drink water or soft drinks like coke. Once they have finished, it is dessert time. Some families eat sponge cake, other families eat fruit or other desserts. Adults use to drink coffee with the dessert. After that it is time to do something together, maybe go for a walk, watch a film or play table games. What´s about you? How Christmas is celebrated in your country?
