It's all the same, only the names will change
Everyday, it seems we're wastin' away
Another place, where the faces are so cold
I drive all night, just to get back home
.
.
I'm a cowboy, on a steel horse I ride.
I'm wanted dead or alive. Wanted dead or alive.
.
.
Sometimes I sleep, sometimes it's not for days
The people I meet always go their separate ways
Sometimes you tell the day
By the bottle that you drink
And times when you're all alone all you do is think
.
.
I'm a cowboy, on a steel horse I ride
I'm wanted dead or alive. Wanted dead or alive....
Oh, I ride!
(yeah!)
.
.
Ooh, and I'm a cowboy, on a steel horse I ride
I'm wanted dead or alive
.
.
I walk these streets
A loaded six-string on my back
I play for keeps, 'cause I might not make it back
I been everywhere, still I'm standing tall
I've seen a million faces
And I've rocked them all
.
.
I'm a cowboy, on a steel horse I ride
I'm wanted dead or alive
I'm a cowboy, I got the night on my side
I'm wanted dead or alive. Wanted dead or alive.

Elina:
Part of the American Culture is the Mythos of the Western "Cowboy".
In that sense, many people like to imagin themselves a "Cowboy". Added to that is the
identity of an "Outlaw" such as a Bank Robber. The Rock Star sometimes thinks of himself as a social outcast or "Outlaw" owing to the popular credo of "Sex, Drugs, and Rock N' Roll".
This also ties in to the Modern "Biker" (a rider of a Harley-Davidson Motorcycle) as a social outcast and "outlaw". The "Biker" can think of himself as a "Cowboy" riding on a
Steel Horse, which is what Jon Bon Jovi refers to when he sings; "On a Steel Horse I ride."
Of course, he could be referring to a bus or car, but the Romantic Identity is lost there.
He refers to his "Six String" on his back, as though it were the equivalent of a "Six Shooter" or the Cowboy's Pistol / handgun.
This all connects to a popular American Mythology, and many Americans feel, at one time or other, alienated from Conventional Society, and the music articulates for many Americans, a more popular identity than "homeowner" or "consumer" or "Family Member".
Nothing quite beats Reality, like the fantasy life of a musician or a music fan Elina.
