FOREIGN LANGUAGE LEARNING IN MY COUNTRY FOREIGN LANGUAGE LEARNING IN MY COUNTRY Introduction The present report is aimed at analysing the state of foreign language learning in my country. In order to do so, I will firstly deal with the main languages people learn, secondly I will focus on who learns them and where and finally I will make some recommendations for improving language learning in Spain. Which languages do people learn? There is no doubt that English is the main target foreign language for Spanish people, together with other less demanded foreign languages such as French or Italian. Nevertheless, due to the severe economic crisis the country is undergoing as well as the emigration movements from Spain to other European countries with fewer rates of unemployment as Germany, some young people and adults are getting fairly interested in learning German too. Who learns them and where? Regarding English, as a compulsory subject throughout most of the levels of the Educative System, it is learnt by very young children at pre-primary school to young students at High School. As any another foreign language such as Italian, French or German, it can be learnt as well in the Official Language Schools, only accessible for young and adult people. In the last few years, thanks to the distance learning through Internet, there is an increasingly important number of people that is learning languages comfortably at home in an autodidactic way . Recommendations I strongly recommend the promotion of bilingual programs in the public schools on the part of the educational authorities as well as official exchanges of students from different countries of the E.U. It would be also great, the creation of bilingual libraries by the local administrations, the rising of grants for those people who want to study a language at home by their own or the broadcast of foreign series and TV programmes in original version with subtitles.

FOREIGN LANGUAGE LEARNING IN MY COUNTRY

FOREIGN LANGUAGE LEARNING IN MY COUNTRY

Introduction

The present This report is aimed at analysing to analyze the state use of foreign language learning in my country. In order to do so [in order to do what?], I will firstly deal with discuss the main languages people learn, secondly then I will focus on who learns them and where.  and Finally, I will make some recommendations for improving language learning in Spain.

Which languages do people learn?

There is no doubt that English is the main target foreign language for Spanish people speakers, [not simply "Spanish people" but those specifically who speak Spanish, so "Spanish speakers"] together with other less demanded popular foreign languages such as French or Italian. Nevertheless, due to the severe economic crisis the our country is undergoing, as well as the emigration movements from Spain to other European countries with that have fewer lesser rates of unemployment such as Germany, some young people and adults are getting fairly interested in learning German too.

Who learns them foreign languages and where? ["them" is too vague]

Regarding English is taught as a compulsory subject throughout most of the levels of the Educative Educational System.  It is learnt learned by very young children at pre-primary school to young students at High School. [Possible alternative: <em>It is studied all the way from pre-primary school to high school.</em>"] As with any another foreign language, such as Italian, French or German, it can also be learnt learned as well in the Official Language Schools, which is only accessible for to <em>young and adult people</em>. [who else is there?] In the last few years, Thanks to the distance learning through the Internet, lately there has been  an increasingly important significant number of people that is are learning languages comfortably at home in an autodidactic way. [Maybe I am simple, but I am a native English speaker and I don't even know what autodidactic means. Could you just say "are learning new languages comfortably at home"?]

Recommendations

I strongly recommend the promotion of bilingual programs in the public schools on the part of the educational authorities as well as official exchanges of students from different countries of the E.U. [?? Not sure what this sentence means.] It would be also great, The creation of bilingual libraries by the local administrations would also be good.  , the rising of Raising grants for those people who want to study a language at home by <em>on their own</em> [redundant, however, since "at home" and "on their own" mean virtually the same thing] or the broadcasting  of foreign series and TV programmes in original version with subtitles [what about it? incomplete thought...]

Thanks for your corrections, Amy ;) I tried to do it formal because the CAE writing task requiered that style: "A leading educational publisher is interested in language learning in different countries. You have been asked to write a report on foreign language learning in your country. In you report you should deal with: • The languages people learn, who learns them and where they learn them. • Recommendations for improving language learning in your country."

Nice job, Miguel! I had to get pretty picky with my corrections. Your English is very good. It is a bit "formal" in spots, so I made it more natural with my corrections. You made some good points too!
