[1] When writing English, we must remember whether we are talking about one thing (singular form) or more than one thing (plural form).  You used the word 'everybody', so we must continue the plural form.  Compare the following sentences:

"Everybody in China will be going to visit their families."

"Every person in China will be going to visit his or her family."

[2] Even though you mean a period of many days, we use the singular form.  The word 'period' collects all the days together, and treats them as a single item (like putting many things into a single box).  Here are some examples:
