昨天我教了两个学生数学。 //here add 了，demonstates a past tense

今天我教了一个学生物理学。//here, chinese don't use 学,just 物理. And almost subject don't end with the word 学,besides 数学，化学 and some advanced or uncommon course like 遗传学,心理学，政治经济学, eventually, it is ok.
