Why old people choose to live in the countryside
While the elderly choose to stay in rural areas, the young are moving into capital cities. The pros and cons of this new phenomenon will be analyzed.
On the one hand, for the old generation, living in the countryside means being able to enjoy a high living standard.
For example, the countryside is usually far less seriously affected by air pollution, rather detrimental to people's respiratory system; this pollution, mainly caused by vehicle exhaust and factory waste gases, is primarily an urban issue. The lower living cost in rural areas is another factor explaining why the elderly prefer stay in the country; compared to living in the cities with rising living costs, they would lead a better life in remote areas.
That is not to say that there are no disadvantages for them to live in those areas. One of the biggest problems is the scarce of medical resources, which is indispensable for some old people with chronic diseases.
On the other hand, young people have good reasons to live in cities, one of which is the abundance/availability of employment opportunities. These chances are crucial for them since most of them have a family to raise, or at least have to live independently. If a grown-up had nowhere to work, he or she would be unlikely to lead a proper life. Better educational facilities in cities are another consideration for young people when choosing where to live. Very few young people would underestimate the importance of good education for their offspring.
After analyzing the advantages and disadvantages of this phenomenon, it is clear that both the young and the old have their own explanations to choose their preferred living places. I believe this trend will still exist in the future.
