"Stricter Punishment" Essay It is true that criminals should be punished strictly, and I think this can deter people from offending laws and keep the society safe. But some people argue that in order to lower the criminal rate we should adopt stricter punishment to offenders. I don’t agree with this view and I think this can bring some harmful effects on citizens and the society. We should not doubt about the idea that punishment can deter people from crimes for following reasons. Firstly, punishment makes offenders and citizens realize the harmful effects of crimes, which can pose a threat to the society and have serious effects on victims. Secondly, criminals should be punished according to the harm of their crimes, and those criminals pose a serious threat to the society should be put into prison. Finally, it’s known to all that a person with criminal records can hardly find jobs. In all, crimes have negative effects on offenders and the society. But adopting stricter punishment is not necessary to reduce criminal rates. This can lead criminals re-offend after they are released. So I believe rehabilitation can help offenders become better citizens. The aim of prison is rehabilitation, so prisoner can learn personal skills and specific job skills, which can do them favors to find jobs, and they are less likely to re-offend and can enjoy a normal life. In addition, young people who dropped out of schools should pay more attention, and the society should offer them some guideline to deter them from crimes, because regularly they are the potential offenders. In conclusion, stricter punishment is not necessary to lower criminal rates and has some negative effects, and there are some more effective measures that can lower criminal rates.

Excellent - well done!

Great use of 'doing a favour' at the end of the text, however we wouldn't use this phrase in this context - we would use it more in a context when someone does something for another person.
