My first car

What was your first car? My first was a second-hand car. It was small and <font color="#0000ff">quite old</font> however it allowed me to learn how to drive. I had a little accident just after I <font color="#ff0000">bough</font>t it but it was <font color="#0000ff">nothing serious</font> so it didn't bother me like <font color="#ff0000">it would have if it had been</font> a newer car. <strike>By the time</strike> I gained self-confidence and<font color="#ff0000"> better</font> driving skills. I think it was a great decision to <font color="#0000ff">learn how</font> drive in that car.

I had a little accident just after I owned bought it,  but it was a small thing so it didn't bother me like it would have if I had had happened over a newer car. By the time I gained self-confidence and I got developed my driving skills (this sentence is not complete, by saying "by the time" you are implying that something else happened. If you just want to say that you gained confidence and developed driving skills, then it would be better to say "Over time I..." or "I was able to gain..." or even "Over time I was able to gain...") . I think it was a great decision to begin driving  to learn how to drive in that car.
