Essay on public transport
I am going to take IELTS
in a month! Thank you in advance for anyone who is willing to correct it!

In a number of countries, some people think it is necessary to spend large sums of money on constructing new railway lines for very fast trains between cities.
Others believe the money should be spent on improving existing public transport.
Discuss both these views and give your own opinion.
People have differing views with regard to the question of how money should be spent on public transport. While there are some good arguments in favour of building new railway lines for high-speed
trains between cities(better alternative:
intercity trains), I believe that we should focus on existing public transport.
There are several reasons why the construction of new railway lines is considered
as beneficial. The main advantage is that
it would make travel between cities faster and more convenient for citizens. The Express Rail Link, for example, takes only less than half an hour between Hong Kong and Shenzhen,
which would be impossible for current transport systems. At the same time, the investment in new railroad construction can lead to a thriving economy as inhabitants will go to other cities for consumption. Another benefit
for this opinion is that high-speed trains are more advanced and energy-efficient than existing ones because they are newly developed.
In spite of the above arguments, I support the view that we should improve existing public transport.
Firstly, it would be faster for us to enjoy an improved outcome because there will be no need to construct transport infrastructure all over again. Secondly, the key objective
would be for people who
take a train or bus is to commute (better alternative:
commute by train or bus) rather than travel to other cities, which means that improving
the current transport network benefits the majority of the citizens. Finally, if new railway lines are constructed,
house (better alternative:
property) prices near the train stations will increase dramatically, and this will have a negative impact on local residents.
In conclusion,
although there are convincing arguments for funding
for new railroad construction, I would argue that money should be used on current public transport.
