We'd had problems with the new manager. We had problems with the new manager. May I know what's the difference between these two sentences? Thanks.

1 - past perfect: used to describe a situation in the past that happened BEFORE another situation in the past. "We'd had problems with the new manager, so we GAVE her extra training". 2 - Straight forward action in the past.
