It is maybe a little strange because going on holiday is something people do once or twice a year, while they might go shopping every day. Two years ago I went to ( ) on holiday with my family. While we were there we did a lot of shopping. Or ... we bought a lot of local products. ... we enjoyed looking around the local shops/markets.

My thoughts: Two years ago I was on holiday in xxxxxx and I went shopping with my family . The sentence really needs a bit more adding to make more sense. I would add and I went shopping with my family , to the local shopping centre.
