In my opinion, it's a serious choice to be a vegetarian. Because vegetarian it's not the only type of diet. It's a way of life, it's like a religion with certain rules. You can't be a vegetarian and hurt animals. You can't be a vegetarian occasionally (for example, tell everyone about your vegetarian and order secretly hamburgers at home).
Choosing a vegetarian lifestyle you must be sure that this is your way.
