So I would appreciate her to experience the same in China at this opportune time." The tone of the letter was meant to be neither not too formal nor informal. Does it sound unnatural? You should write this with a comma: So, I would appreciate her to experience the same in China at this opportune time. Without the comma after "so", it sounds like a introductory phrase. If you have a comma, it sounds like a complete sentence.

Further on the comma, you need to use them to clearly distinguish where the introductory phrase ends. There are many funny examples online where a missing comma completely changes the meaning of the sentence. In your case, the meaning does not change but by omitting it, it turns your sentence into a sentence fragment vs. a complete sentence.
