I came across an article online about artificial blood and would like to share it here. Nara Medical University in Japan announced that they succeeded in making blood artificially for a blood transfusion. They developed "artificial red blood cells" which carry oxygen in blood. It's possible to administer the blood to anybody regardless of their blood type. Conventional red blood cells can be preserved for four weeks. In comparison, their artificial equivalents/substitutes can be reserved for two years at room temperature. Hence, the artificial red blood cells can be a savior in the medical industry if they are put* to commercial use. The method of production is as follows, 1) Extract hemoglobin from donated blood that would otherwise be thrown away because its preserving period has expired. 2) Encapsulate it with an artificial lipid membrane. I think it will be very useful for islands and other isloated places where there is no other source of blood nearby.
