Someone asked me the meaning of Miraitowa, the official mascot of the Tokyo Olympics. I answered, "future and eternal." But he didn't understand what I said at all.
Is my English pronunciation so bad? Would you help me practice it with me? Of course, I will help you with your Japanese in return.
東京オリンピックの公式マスコット「ミライトワ」の意味を聞かれて、"future and eternal"って答えたんだけど、全然通じなかった。
私の英語の発音って、そんなにヒドいのかな。誰か私が発音の練習をするのを手伝ってくださいませんか。もちろん、お返しに日本語の学習をお手伝いします。

I teach pronunciation and have experience with Japanese students. Japanese has 19 sounds, but English has 44. Also, Japanese doesn't allow consonant after vowels. So, accurately pronouncing English takes significant training for a Japanese speaker.
If you have a strong Japanese accent, this is what the person heard.
fu > hu, ur > ah
future >> hutah
ae vowel > ah, hard to hear final N, extra vowel U at the end
and >> ah-du
er > ah, l > r-like sound, extra vowel U at the end
eternal >> ee-tah-nah-ru

As Chris has said, there are lesser types of sounds in Japanese. I can help you practice and improve your pronunciation :)
