Rosie Li
My Chinese name is Li Ye. “Li” is my family name and “Ye” is my given name, which means “bamboo leaves”in English.
My mom gave me this name hoping that I could grow up healthy and vigorous like bamboo leaves. There is another reason why I am called this name: My cousin Li Zhu, whose given name refers to “bamboo”in English, is three years older than me. Since we are cousins and she came up first, my grandpa suggested that my name should better relate to hers in meaning. Therefore, people could judge more easily from our names that we came from the same family. And that’s the whole story about my Chinese name.
As for my English name, Rosie, I chose it by myself. Because I liked red rose. The reason is quite simple, isn’t it?
