I came across an online article about "cloudburst". I would like to share some of the key points here.
The article said cloudburst is a phenomenon that is pouring rapidly in limited area for very short time. Honestly, I have never heard the phenomenon before, but I thought it was similar to liner rainbands. The prefecture I have lived faced the natural disaster in 2014. Many houses got completely washed out and many people were killed by the debris flow. That was why I never forget the phenomenon "Liner Rainbands". However, they have different features such as the following,
Liner rainbands Cloudburst
Duration for hours for 30 minutes to an hour
Area dozens of kilometers to hundreds a few kilometers to dozens
Rainfall hundreds of milimeters 100 milimeters
The affected area size is different, but the houses and roads in those area will take heavy damage such as houses collapsed and roads are flooded. In case of liner rainband, lots of thunderheads spreads belt-like and have stayed the same location for hours while it has been raining there. On the other hand, one thunderhead causes torrential rain in limited area and I guess it might be similar to a sudden downpour called the "Guerrilla Rainstorm" in Japan. Cloudburst often occurs in areas with a monsoon climate and in mountainous areas. That's why cloudbursts are observed in the foothills of the Himalayas. Japan is also strong affected by a monsoon climate and it often brings the rainy season, typhoon and torrential rain to Japan. So, I'm worried about whether the phenomenon happens in Japan as well. Actually, two typhoons have been moving across the country and they were wreaking havoc in some regions. I really hope the typhoon diminishes in strength as soon as possible.

I came across an online article about “cloudbursts”. I would like to share some of the key points here. The article said that a cloudburst is a phenomenon in which extremely heavy rain falls rapidly over a limited area for a very short time. Honestly, I had never heard of this phenomenon before, but I thought it was similar to linear rainbands.
The prefecture where I have lived previously experienced a natural disaster in 2014. Many houses were completely washed away and many people were killed by landslides. That is why I never forget the phenomenon of “linear rainbands”.
However, they have different features, as shown below:
Linear rainbands | Cloudbursts
Duration: several hours | 30 minutes to an hour
Area: dozens to hundreds of kilometres | a few to dozens of kilometres
Rainfall: hundreds of millimetres | around 100 millimetres
Although the affected areas differ in size, both can cause severe damage such as collapsed houses and flooded roads. In the case of linear rainbands, bands of cumulonimbus clouds remain in the same area for hours, bringing continuous heavy rain. On the other hand, a single cumulonimbus cloud can cause torrential rain in a limited area, which I think is similar to a sudden downpour known as a “guerrilla rainstorm” in Japan.
Cloudbursts often occur in monsoon climates and mountainous regions. That is why they are frequently observed in the foothills of the Himalayas. Japan is also strongly affected by a monsoon climate, which brings the rainy season, typhoons, and heavy rainfall.
Because of this, I am worried that this phenomenon could also occur in Japan. In fact, two typhoons have recently been moving across the country and causing damage in some regions. I sincerely hope they weaken as soon as possible.

That is why I will never forget the phenomenon "linear rainbands". However, linear rainbands have different features.
For example, linear rainbands can last for several hours, while cloudbursts last for 30 minutes to an hour. Linear rain bands can affect dozens to hundreds of kilometers, while cloudbursts typically affect a few to dozens of kilometers. Cloubursts can produce around 100 milimeters of rainfall, but linear rain bands can produce hundreds of milimeters. Although the affected area size is different, the houses and roads in those areas will suffer heavy damage such as collapsed houses and flooded roads.
In the case of liner rainbands, many thunderheads spread in a belt-like pattern and stay in the same location for hours. On the other hand, if one thunderhead causes torrential rain in limited area, I guess it might be similar to a sudden downpours called "Guerrilla Rainstorms" in Japan.

Thank you for sharing! I was raised in a region that had a hurricane season, so it is interesting to learn about the rainy and typhoon seasons of Japan. In the region where I was raised in the US, those “linear rainbands” could also result in tornadoes that could cause quick, unpredictable, and drastic damage. Summarizing articles is an excellent way to practice. Keep it up!
