I've just seen in a blog "my course emphasizes on developing..." But ON sounds like a direct translation from Russian to me. The teacher is really respected and a holder of DELTA and CPE. Is it acceptable to say emphasize on or is it a mistake?

You can have or place AN emphasis (noun) on something or you can emphasise (verb) something but you can’t emphasise on something!

I disagree with a lot of the comments saying that "emphasize on" is a valid usage. I have heard "to place *an* emphasis on" but have never heard the first variant being used.

As a native speaker, I read it and my first glance didn't pick up a mistake. On second thoughts it is wrong, but of all the mistakes you could make, it's a pretty small one. It's the sort of mistake a native speaker might make.

Sue, thank you! That is exactly what I meant! That the verb shouldn't be followed by ON.

I am a native speaker, and we do say this sometimes.
It may or may not be correct, but we use it.
