I am trying to read more in English. When we were at school, we learned a lot of vocabulary that we never use in our daily lives. It often feels like a waste of time. At university, people learn it mainly to pass exams. In addition, English teaching is not very good; the way it is taught is ineffective. Teachers do not introduce any background to the English language, so you cannot feel the beauty of it. You are not taught any cultural context, and you do not become interested in the language itself. You only do exercises, such as multiple-choice questions or choosing the correct grammar. I was never very interested in English as a subject. Parents pay a lot of money, not only for school but also for extra classes at weekends or in the evenings. However, many children do not learn effectively because they are not interested. Of course, wealthy parents send their children to private schools where everything is taught in English, which is not a problem. However, most people cannot afford this.
