The 50-percent theory even helps me see hope beyond my Royals' recent slump,a field of struggling rookies sown so that some year soon we can reap an October harvest.
↑what does the word ‘beyond’ mean and what does the word ‘sown’ act as in this sentence ?

The literal meaning of "beyond" is further away than something else: beyond the horizon, beyond the next block, etc. In your example, "beyond" is being used figuratively to describe something further away in time rather than in distance. I can visualize the team doing better in the future after their current slump is over.
"Reap" and "sow" are old-fashioned words from the world of agriculture. "Sowing" means planting seeds and "reaping" means harvesting crops after they've grown. The team is letting young players get playing time now so that they'll improve more quickly than they would if they didn't get to play.
