A pub (I'm from America, but pretty sure it holds the same meaning here) is a bar, or a public building that offers alcoholic beverages to its customers. Go to the pub to drink, dance, and socialize. I hope that helps!

I come from a land of many pubs. A pub is an establishment ,also called a hotel, where you can buy alcoholic and non alcoholic beverages and meals. Sometimes there is entertainment at night like bands playing. Some pubs have poker machines in Australia as well.

A pub is short for public house. It is a place where drinks (mainly alcoholic drinks) are sold to be consumed on the premises. It is more or less a bar, they are pretty much synonymous, however 'bar' refers in particular to a long bar at which stools are arranged for sitting.

Ask your boss how many of your coworkers are undercover in pubs to contrast the not-so-jolly guys of the mafia; visit them to share a drink, but by no means don't risk their cover to be blown. (Obviously this followed from the title you have.)

Yes, I agree with Whitney. Same in most (if not all) English-speaking countries. "Pub" is short for "public bar", as already described.
