You could get something like a 中国结 that they could hang in their car or something like that. I don't think you really need to get something for the first meeting, as this is more specific to Chinese culture.

I learned people gather too many trinkets over the years. It's easy to lose small things. I bought my boyfriend's father (in the Netherlands) a t-shirt with my hometown name across it. Small items of food are usually appreciated. When I returned home to the United States, I brought home a huge box of s stroopwafel (waffle cookie thing) from the Netherlands to my office. It was gone in two hours.

I think something from your country would be a nice gift, chinese tea should be good. Something that is not common in america but it is in your country, something that represents it well. Those kind of things are the best since you can't go to the corner store and buy it yourself. Hope this helps.
