The technical name for the outer skin - on or off the insect - is called the exoskeleton. Some people, if they see an empty exoskeleton, will call it a shell. When the insect takes it off, it "molts". Yes, a newly hatched baby insect is called a larva. A caterpillar is the larval form of a moth or butterfly. If it undergoes complete metamorphosis, like a butterfly, it will transform into an intermediate form called a pupa.

I don't believe "shedded" is correct. Common English would say, "the insect shed it's skin". Sometimes it can be called the insect's skeleton as well. A baby insect is a Larva.

Since Im not a scientist Im not sure but i think you can say shedded skin. for taking off its skin you can say shed I think. "The insect shedded its skin." I'm sure their are better words for this but this is very specific vocabulary. You would say larva for a baby insect.
