[Basic Definiation: a small amount of something.] Bit if often used together with "a little" to make "a little bit."
Example:
Q: Can you speak English? A: Yeah, a little bit
Computers:
A bit is a small amount of data.
Horses:
The "bit" is a part of the head-gear (bridal) which goes into the mouth of the horse and used to steer the animal.

The word "BIT" has more than one meaning. Most common meaning is A small part, or small amount. (where shall I place this BIT of the Jigsaw Puzzle? This cake is good, can I have a BIT more ?)
But it can also be a tool, a DRILL BIT is used to drill a hole.

ok it's like in french: un petit peu (a little bit) or for a piece of something, I understand. Thank you.

A bit can also mean a piece of something. For example, "Can I have a bit of that cake?" The reason I say this is so that you don't get confused if someone says "big bit." For example, "That's a big bit of cake." In this case, "bit" means "piece" not "little amount."
