I would like to understand how "whichever" works in this case.
My book gives an instance about the word whichever which confuses me.
Ex:You should wear whichever jacket will be warmest.
If whichever = no matter which, it could be rewritten as: You should wear no matter which jacket will be warmest. I can't image using whichever here to express that no matter which jacket, you should wear the warmest one. I feel the meaning so strange if use whichever in that order. Is there more detailed explanation of this case?

Here "whichever" means "any one". So choose the jacket that is warmest, whichever one that might be.

It is not the same as "no matter which".
whichever = 任何
It really means: If that jacket is the warmest, then wear it. It's OK. Don't fuss about what it looks likes.

This is the translation from my book for the sentence: 哪件外套最溫暖,你就應該穿哪件

You should wear a jacket which will be the warmest (to you). No matter which jacket you're picking, choose the warmest one.
