seriously, I cant find a english word meaning "倒是" but I can give you an example for this:
imagine, your friend invite you to watch a film, and your friend tells you like this: come with me to watch that film, it is really really really really nice, all of people love this film. anyway, your friend use lots of good words to describe this film, but you dont think so, you have watched lots of films, so you think this film cant be too good, it is so-so, just a normal film, however, you want to watch it, because your friend gives it a very very high evaluation. it means that you are going to watch this film with a doubt of mind. so before you watch it, you can say to your friend: oh really? you dont say! I dont believe you, lets watch it, I will check it. “倒是” gives us a feeling as "oh really" or "you dont say".
so we use 倒是 like this:
when you will do something or check something out but you doubt about it, you can add 倒是 after the subject of your sentence.
for example,
someone told you that he believed the football team of italy can win, but you dont believe him, so you can say :我 倒是 要看看意大利足球队能不能赢。
