can i explain to you in this way: 看 is 'look'， 看一看 is like 'have a look' or 'take a look'，听一听、问一问、说一说、聊一聊 etc. are the similar to the example above :)

“听”:停下来，听特定的声音 。“听一听” “听一下” 语气更委婉；“问”和“问一问”也是一样，“问”比较直接，“问一问”比较委婉。在中国，北方人说话和性格都比较直接，南方人则比较委婉，所以你听到的这些词组是不是来自南方人和北方人说话的差异呢？ ：）
