Look for - Is when you search or locate/discover someone or something. Example: " I'm looking for my wallet. " Look Up - Is when you seek information basically. Example: " Try looking up on the Internet for the recipe" Hope that helps. :)

Here's a simple answer: You look FOR something when the question is, "Where is it?" Where's my phone? I looked FOR it in the living room but it wasn't there. You look UP something when the question is, "What is it?" A What's the capital of Sweden? B I don't know. Let's look it UP online.

"Look for" - is when you search for something such as "I am looking for my textbook" you can also order some one by saying "I have lost my phone can you help me look for it?". "Look Up" - Suggesting to search the internet or books for the information they seek.
