What does "love was out to get me" mean?
Here are lyrics of a song called "I'm a believer".
I thought love was only true in fairytales
Meant for someone else but not for me
Love was out to get me
That's the way it seemed
Disappointment haunted all my dreams
Then I saw her face, now I'm a believer
Not a trace of doubt in my mind
I'm in love, I'm a believer

Haha great song :)
It's saying love was trying to "attack" him or "go after" him...
He's saying that since he couldn't find love (before he saw "her face") he felt negatively towards it and like he would never find it.

In English, when something or someone is "out to get you," that means that person/thing is "mean to you, vindictive toward you, and in general, wants to do/cause something bad to happen to you." In this particular case, "love was out to get me" implies that the person (singing) thought love had something against him and didn't want him ever to feel, receive, or to enjoy all the good things associated with love.
