How would you explain “fellow” here ?
Kevin Powers was born and raised in Richmond, Virginia, graduated from Virginia Commonwealth University, and holds an MFA from the University of Texas at Austin, where he was a Michener Fellow in Poetry.
How would you explain “fellow” of “a Michener Fellow in Poetry”? Does it mean a member of a society or a student who holds a fellowship?
Thanks!

"Michener Fellow" is a fellowship named after James Albert Michener.
Actually, we usually call it for "The Michener Center for Writers", which is an interdisciplinary Masters of Fine Arts program in fiction, poetry, playwriting, and screenwriting at the University of Texas at Austin.
The program was founded in the early 1990s through a generous endowment from the late James A. Michener and Mari Sabusawa Michener. It was originally called the Texas Center for Writers, but changed its name to honor Mr. Michener after his death.
In order to let you know about this fellowship, I will give you how it works:
The program operates through competitive entry and offers a generous fellowship including tuition and other fees. It is taught by faculty from the Departments of English, Radio Television and Film, and Theatre and Dance, and also hosts visiting faculty of nationally recognized writers, who often participate in a public Reading Series.
