Using prepositions can chance the meaning of certain nouns in English. For example, if you say, "He is at church", it generally means that someone is attending a ceremony or activity in a church. However, if you say, "He is at the church", it generally means someone is physically in the church building.
Generally, native speakers of English say "I am going home" because they are referring to the place where they live, sleep at night, etc. Generally native English speakers say, "I am going to home" when they want to specify that they are going to that particular place, usually for some reason. For example, "I'm going to my home to meet the courier from Federal Express."
