Using the word "mainstream" as a verb is something that I've only heard of while watching True Blood, which is an American TV series on HBO with vampires, werewolves, shape-shifters, and other mythical creatures.
In the context of this TV show, "to mainstream" means for the vampire to adopt conventional norms and attitudes in order to be accepted in human society. I can therefore imagine Bill Compton (a vampire) saying something like "the only hope for vampire-kind is to mainstream."
Otherwise, in normal, everyday speech, "mainstream" is much more likely to be used as a noun or adjective.
Perhaps you mean "X is TOO mainstream", as in "Starbucks is too mainstream for me."
Or "is to mainstream" could be part of a comparison: "NPR is to radio what PBS is to mainstream TV."
In sum, it's hard to say for sure without seeing the context in which "to mainstream" is used.

Do you mean "is TOO mainstream"? One letter can make a huge difference!
This is a popular internet meme mocking "hipster" culture. A hipster considers him/herself as "beyond cool"... this means anything that is fashionable nowadays is derided by hipsters as "uncool" (because they are sooo far ahead of fashion).
So the joke "X is too mainstream" means the speaker is rejecting the value of something simply because it's popular.

Music, clothing and ideas are usually associated with being to mainstream. It is similar to being popular. Someone who says things are to mainstream usually hate being associated with collective they prefer being an individual. Hope this helps:)

"MAINSTREAM" refers to the majority of anything ... for example
His political views are "MAINSTREAM" ... this means his political views are shared by the majority of the people.
another example >>> Her fashion preferences are "MAINSRTEAM" ... this means she like the most popular fashions
I hope this helps you,
Dana
