What does まつすぐ mean?
What does
まつすぐ
mean?
I understand まつ means wait, and すぐ means soon or immediately, but I don't really understand the combination of the two.

If you found the word of まっすぐ in a baseball, it is a slang of fastball - 直球(ちょっきゅう)-
ex) 直球をなげる = まっすぐをなげる
彼の直球ははやい = 彼のまっすぐははやい
And まっすぐ is often used when describing a good person or a person who is not disturbed with anything or anyone.
ex) 彼は、まっすぐな人です。
彼の思いは、未来に まっすぐ むいている。 His mind is straight forward to the future

I thought it was strange myself. The context is actually in the thoughts of a baseball pitcher preparing to throw his pitch. It's probably meant to be informal and possibly shortened. I think you may be right about the "straight" - I was transcribing from an image, and it wasn't the best quality, so I sometimes had difficulty determining the exact size and whatnot. Thanks so much for your help! ^_^

Can you give some context for this word? Where did you run across it? I couldn't find an entry for "まつすぐ" in two online Japanese-English dictionaries. My first reaction was to wonder if you really meant to write "まっすぐ" which, of course, would mean straight. The kanji is "真っ直ぐ.
If you put "まつすぐ" into Google Translate, it says the phrase means "just wait" but it's a bad idea to rely on Google Translate.
