An application called WeChat
My English teacher told me that a lot of her foreign friends use WeChat these days. Does westerners really know about this application( a Chinese version of MSN) ?

No, from my experience WeChat is fairly uncommon in English speaking countries, such as the US and the UK.
The most popular applications in the UK are WhatsApp, and increasingly iMessage and Google Hangouts, although there are restrictions on its use in certain countries, including China. Whatsapp is owned by Facebook and can be used in China, although from experience Google Hangouts does not work.

Hi Valerie, using the word 'westerners', has a slight negative, distant and separatist connotation. You could say, 'Do other countries know about this application?', or 'Does anyone else use this application?'. Thanks for the WeChat idea though.

The international equivalent is Whatsapp. Wechat is essentially an instant messaging app run by an enterprise based in the People's Republic of China.

If Western people use QQ who also know Wechat is contained in QQ application, so Taiwanese definitely know WeChat can help users to recollect wrong photos back after sending to a wrong person.
Western people locally use QQ, certainly know although they don't live in China or Taiwan if they know how to use QQ.
As for language choices usually with most of modern softwares, especially in chatting, hence whichever any messenger or chat software often contains so many language versions if you don't choose some particular extremely professional software in the field of professional career use which could be only for English or other certain countries without Chinese.
My pleasure.
