I used this book. It's great, but it's in English: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Remembering_the_Kanji_and_Remembering_the_Hanzi#Remembering_the_Kanji_1 In the book, you can learn kanji in a special order and use memory tricks (mnemonics/stories). It still takes a lot of hard work, but I think it is less work than any other method. A lot of people don't like the book, but it worked for me!
