If there is something wrong with "abandon" in this sentence? The sentence is "what I'm trying to do is never abandon myself to despair". If there is something wrong with this sentence, especially the word "abandon"? Thank you.

Hello Yolanda, This expression is somewhat archaic and is common in literary expression. In this context, it basically means 'to give in'. 'To abandon yourself to something' means to give in to something. So in this case, the writer is saying that he/she is trying hard not to give in/surrender him/herself to despair. Hope that helps.

The sentence is correct, but it is a bit longwinded. On of the meanings of "abandon" is to "stop helping": The author is saying he will always try to stop him/herself becoming despondent.
