Flugzeug fahren oder fliegen? I've been told that you don't "fahre" an airplane, but "fliegen". I asked why but couldn't get an explanation, I obviously know that airplanes fly, but well, they still fly with a mechanism, I looked at the internet but could neither find a clear answer. Can anybody help me?

Fliegen is correct.

Man fährt etwas mit Rädern. Das Flugzeug fährt zur Startbahn, dann hebt es ab und dann fliegt es. Das stimmt fast immer. Allerdings fährt man auch Schlittschuh, ganz ohne Räder :-)
