Where to place "het" in a sentece
Hi all,
I learn Afrikaans most from speaking with my mother who although she is English, is fairly fluent in the language. However a question often comes up that confounds me and she can never really explain it properly. The question is, where in the sentence would you place the word "het"? It seems to be put in randomly and my mother is unable to give me a rule as to were it must be placed, she just knows what sounds right. Even my native Afrikaans father has trouble explaining it. And so often when I speak in Afrikaans I am corrected because I can just never figure out where to put "het" in a sentence!
Baie dankie vir jou help :)

It should come second in the sentence, right after the subject:
Ek het 'n hond
Ek het my ontbyt geëet
Except in questions, in which case it comes first:
Het jy 'n hond?
Het jy jou ontbyt geëet?
