If you want to learn slang then watch some of the current movies. However, better English can be learned from much older movies because these were more sophisticated. Gone with the wind or Casablanca are two that come to mind. English movies as these have better diction.

The most important thing is to find movies that you enjoy. The second is to be sure that the dialogues can be heard clearly above the sound effects. Of course a movie that has more dialogue than action would be beneficial. I offer two of my favorites:
Empire of the Sun (1987 directed by Steven Spielberg and starring Christian Bale)
Castaway (2000 directed by Robert Zemeckis and strarring Tom Hanks)
Castaway is mostly monologue as Hanks's character is stranded on an island. Both movies have an engaging story line, beautiful music soundtrack, and enough action to keep your eyes busy. :)

I know that they are technically for kids, but I enjoy watching Disney movies for kids in other languages. For example, I enjoy watching "The Little Mermaid", "Lion King", and "Pocahontas" in German, Spanish, and Japanese. They are meant for kids, so they are usually easy to understand. Plus, they're "feel good" movies, and who doesn't enjoy "feel good" movies. haha
Hope this helped!

I recommend you choose a film that you are interested in, with a story line that you can relate to. This will help with your comprehension. If you are looking for a British film, the Kings Speech might be interesting, it is about King George VI learning to over come his stutter. Alfred Hitchcock movies might also be interesting, and the diction might be easier than modern films. Try The 39 steps or rear window. There are some very good British films but the accents are very hard to follow. Kes and This is England, will give you a great insight into British culture but very difficult to understand!

I agree with Larry that the old films (1930s - 1960s) are the best for learning English. The dialogue is slow, clear, straightforward. and much easier to follow than modern-day films.
I'm not convinced that Disney cartoons are ideal, though. It's helpful to be able to see speakers' mouths and facial expressions - something that is obviously missing from animations!
One film that has beautifully slow clear dialogue and absolutely timeless appeal is the American classic 'The Wizard of Oz'. Just as good today as it was 70 years ago. It's certainly got the feelgood factor, and some nice songs too.
