The sentence makes sense and is grammatically correct. In terms of sounding natural, I would use 'since' instead of 'from', but that just be my personal preference, I'm not sure if other native speakers would feel the same way. Your sentence is perfectly fine, there is nothing wrong with it.

Use this pattern: something has happened since something happened. So you should say: This place has changed a lot since the last time i was here

"This place has been changed." This doesn't sound natural to me. "This place has changed." sounds better in my opinion.

May be better to say in this way: "This place has been changed changed..."
