What is the Chinese word for "DIY" as in a woodworking project etc?
This is specifically to talk about a project I am working on - I am building a guitar from scratch!

In English we'd just say "I made this guitar" or "this is my handmade/homemade guitar" , but in Chinese I think you maybe need a different verb... I don't think this quite captures the idea, or does it? 这是我的自己做的吉他

While I am at it - any other useful DIY or similar words and phrases?!

我自己做的 + noun

this is my handmade guitar. --- 这是 我自己做的吉他.

I used to be a guitar player. I think that should be "纯手工打造的吉他". James Olson‘ guitar, for example, is one of the biggst brand of DIY acoustic guitar. We call it "纯手工打造的原声吉他".
Of course, you can translated 'do it yourself ' into "自己做". But I prefer this expression "手工打造".

纯手工打造 is handmade but not necessarily DIY, because it could be someone else's 手工。 So it really depends on what you really want to say. 这吉他是我自己做的 is more accurate and much less pretentious.

Hello I think that's pretty much how Chinese people express the meaning for DIY. Usually, you can say 这是我自己做的吉他 for This is my handmade guitar. I cannot think of other expressions in Chinese now.
