present perfect end past perfect hi I am not sure about the way to use the present and past perfect form. If i want to talk about something that happened in a indeterminate past, must i use the past or the present perfect form? thanks so much

You would only use a past perfect construction if you were placing something in the past in reference to some other event you have already placed in the past. For example, "He said [simple past referring to some previous time] that he had gone away [past perfect placing his departure prior to that time]." Otherwise, you would probably use simple past, or if appropriate, a present perfect tense.
