A lot of customs were originated in the last century, that’s why/for this reason nowadays many of them are obsolete though they used to be very important to society of that time.

I'd like to know if I write "that’s why" or "for this reason" the means is the same or change, which is better?
What's the position of nowadays?
I should use other word intead of though, even though, although maybe?

A lot of customs(were) originated in the last century, and that’s why many of them are obsolete nowadays, though/although/even though they used to be very important to society then ( at that time).
