Can I say like "whether he would be alive, or whether he would be dead"? I came across this sentence "whether he be alive, or whether he be dead". They say it is subjunctive mood. Which means that I can say like "whether he would be alive, or whether he would be dead", can't I?

In this sentence, this gives off the idea that what ever the writer, narrator, or character is talking about, the person or organism could possibly be dead or alive but we do not necessarily know at the moment. You can say this kind of thing but more context is a must for others to understand what you are talking about.
